Daniell lands at No. 91 in the nation with a 5.97 average
TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama women's tennis junior Andie Daniell surged back into the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Singles Rankings on Tuesday. Daniell came in at No. 91 with a 5.97 average.
Daniell upset her second ranked opponent of the season on March 24, dominating No. 52 Ingrid Gamarra Martins of South Carolina in straight sets at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3. Her first win against a ranked opponent came on March 2 when she took down No. 117 Justina Mikulskyte of Kentucky, 7-6(3), 6-2.
Daniell has already started her junior campaign on a roll, finishing fall play with a 9-2 record. During the fall slate, Daniell defeated then-No. 45 Lindsey Hodge from Rice University, 6-4, 6-1, while also reaching the semifinal round of the 2017 ITA Southern Regional Championships.
So far this spring season, Daniell has been scorching hot at the No. 1 singles position with a 14-6 record, while sporting a 14-9 mark in doubles play. In the first road contest of the season, Daniell set the tone for the upset over UCF, after downing Ksenia Kuznetsova, 6-4, 6-1, in singles while topping Ksenia Kuznetsova/Maria Martinez, 6-4, with teammate Ann Selim in doubles.
Daniell first appeared on the computerized rankings on Feb. 20 at No. 118 with a 4.93 average, and later slipped to No. 124 with a 5.07 average on March 6.
Daniell and the Crimson Tide will return to the court this weekend to face Arkansas on April 6 and Missouri on April 8.
