
Alabama Men’s Tennis’ Edson Ortiz Named to 2018 SEC Men’s Tennis Community Service Team

The sophomore earned his first SEC Community Service Award of his career
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Edson Ortiz was named to the 2018 SEC Men's Tennis Community Service Team the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.
Ortiz volunteered for a variety of Alabama Tennis Kids Clinics along with helping with the Tuscaloosa Tennis Association. He made numerous trips to Association Outreach events along with visits to the Capstone Village retirement home. He also participated in the Alabama Habitat for Humanity project in October, spending the day by building a house for a family in-need alongside other Crimson Tide student-athletes.
The Chihuahua, Mexico native, serves as one of two representatives on the team as a SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) Officer, where Ortiz functions as one of the voices for all Crimson Tide student-athletes in regards to enhancing their overall experience and well-being while at Alabama. Most recently Ortiz has spent time with 11-year-old Caleb Holcomb, after the team adopted him through the Team Impact program.
Ortiz and the Alabama men's tennis team will be back on the courts tomorrow in the first round of the SEC Men's Tennis Tournament against Auburn at 4 p.m. CT at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
