Alabama Women’s Golf in Command after Two Rounds at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

The Crimson Tide out to a 12-shot lead heading into Saturday’s final round
ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Cheyenne Knight equaled her career low with an opening-round 65 as the Alabama women's golf team ran out to a 12-shot lead after 36 holes on the first day of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the par-72, 6,300-yard University of Georgia Golf Club in Athens, Ga., on Friday.
Individually, Knight (65-71/136) started the day with a tournament-leading 65 in the first round and followed that up with a second-round one-under par to move out to a three-shot lead at 8-under par heading into Saturday's final round. Junior Lauren Stephenson (71-69/140) ended the day tied for fifth at 4-under par. Sophomore Kristen Gillman (70-71/141 is in seventh place at 3-under par.
Freshman Angelica Moresco (70-75/145 is tied for 13th at 1-over par. Senior Lakareber Abe (76-79/155) is tied for 46th at 11-over par. Senior Nicole Morales (74-75/149) is playing as an individual this weekend and is tied for 27th at 5-over par.
Alabama (276-286/562) holds the second round lead at 14-under par, followed by Arkansas (290-284/574) in second place at 2-under par. Duke (292-288/580) is 20 shots off the lead in third at 4-over par. Host Georgia (290-295/585) is fourth at 9-over par. Baylor (289-299/588) is fifth at 12-over par.
Due to the potential for severe storms on Sunday, the tournament was shortened to two days with teams playing the first two rounds on Friday.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT on Saturday. Alabama will be paired with Arkansas and Duke in round three.
