Katie Lockwood comes to the Capstone after an impressive two-year stint at Eastern Florida
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team and head coach Wes Hart picked up another great addition to the program Thursday with the signing of junior college transfer from Eastern Florida, Katie Lockwood.
"I'm very excited to have Katie joining us in the fall," coach Hart said. "She's a tremendous pick up for us. We have done well with transfers over the last couple of seasons, and I have every reason to believe that Katie will be successful too. Her numbers and accolades speak for themselves."
Lockwood was named the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Association National Junior College Player of the Year and earned First Team NJCAA All-America honors after wrapping up her 2017 campaign with 17 goals and 12 assists, including two games in which she scored four goals. Lockwood scored in nine of the team's 16 games this past fall and had three game winners.
During her two years at midfield at Eastern Florida, Lockwood saw action in 25 games, making 23 starts, while providing 18 goals for the Titans. The Hudderfield, England native, also collected 14 assists and totaled 50 points, to go along with 48 shots, 29 shots on goal and three game-winning goals. Furthermore, Lockwood led the Titans to two national championship tournament appearances and was named the 2017 Region 8 Player of the Year.
Coach Hart has turned in an impressive offseason, as Lockwood becomes the seventh new addition to the Crimson Tide soccer program after signing sophomore transfer Nicole Strahl from Troy in January, and adding five on National Signing Day including Abigail Bivens, Kaitlyn Madden, Riley Mattingly, Reyna Reyes and Kathryn Rogers.
Hart has a knack for attracting top transfers, as Lockwood becomes the fifth transfer to the Crimson Tide program since his arrival at the Capstone. Lockwood becomes the second NJCAA Player of the Year, as Celia Jimenez Delgado earned the honor in 2014 after her standout season at Iowa Western Community College. Other past transfers include Chatham DeProspo and Abbie Boswell, who have led the Tide in numerous categories and have been leaders on-and-off the field.
