
Alabama Track & Field Lands 10 on Indoor All-SEC List

Three Crimson Tide student-athletes earn All-Freshman honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ten Alabama track & field student-athletes earned All-SEC honors for their performances at the 2018 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the league office announced Wednesday. Three Tide student-athletes were named to the SEC All-Freshman team.
Eight members of the SEC champion UA men's team were honored, led by junior first-team selection Shelby McEwen, who won the high jump at the conference meet. Earning second-team honors were freshman Christian Edwards (triple jump), junior Kord Ferguson (shot put), senior Daniel Haugh (weight throw), juniors Will Herrscher (pole vault), Gilbert Kigen (5,000 meters) and Vincent Kiprop (5,000 meters) as well as senior Ruebin Walters (60-meter hurdles). Edwards and fellow freshman Jake Spotswood (pole vault) were named to the All-Freshman team.
Juniors Stacey Destin (high jump) and Portious Warren (shot put) earned second-team All-SEC honors for the Alabama women. Freshman Jaimie Robinson (triple jump) was named to the women's All-Freshman squad.
In addition to the student-athlete honors, Alabama head coach Dan Waters was voted the SEC Men's Coach of the Year.
Alabama will send nine athletes (six men, three women) and its women's 4x400-meter relay to College Station, Texas for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 9-10, at Texas A&M.
