Alabama Men’s Golf in Three-Way Tie for Fifth After Day One of Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters

Hodges in second, Hardee in 15th following opening 18 holes of play
LAS VEGAS – Seniors Lee Hodges and Jonathan Hardee both carded below par rounds to lead the No. 4 Alabama men's golf team in Monday's opening round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. The Crimson Tide finished the day at 2-over par 290 and is in a three-way tie for fifth entering Tuesday's second round.
Fresh off claiming medalist honors at the Puerto Rico Classic in late February, Hodges continued his stellar play to start the spring season by carding a 4-under par 68 on Monday. The Ardmore, Tenn., native finished the day in a tie for second as he collected eight birdies to go along with a pair of bogeys and a double bogey on his way to recording a sub-70 score for the third time in four rounds played this spring.
Meanwhile, Hardee collected four birdies and three bogeys on the way to carding a 1-under 71 to end the tournament's opening day in a tie for 15th. It was the first round of below par this spring for the Greer, S.C., native, who entered the event third on the team in scoring average (72.60).
Freshman Wilson Furr, playing in his third career tournament and the first of the spring, is in a tie for 41st position with a 2-over par 74 on the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club course.
Junior Davis Riley, who entered the event ranked No. 2 in the country according to the most recent Golfstat.com individual rankings, is in a tie for 54th at 5-over par 77, while freshman Davis Shore rounds out the Tide scorers with a 79 to end the day in a tie for 70th.
Fifth-ranked Florida leads the 15-team field at 6-under par 282, three strokes ahead of tournament host No. 21 UNLV (285). TCU, ranked No. 36, is in third with a 287, followed by No. 28 Pepperdine at 288. Alabama is tied for fifth alongside No. 14 Illinois and No. 35 UCLA.
The Tide will tee off round two on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. PT and will be paired along with Oklahoma and USC. Live scoring for this year's tournament can be found at www.Golfstat.com.
