Crimson Tide men rank fourth in 2017-18 cross country/track & field performance entering the 2018 outdoor season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's track & field ranks fourth in the standings for the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's Program of the Year Award entering the 2018 outdoor season, the USTFCCCA announced Tuesday.
Alabama's ninth-place finish at the recently-completed 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, coupled with the Crimson Tide men's 14th-place showing at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship gives the Tide 23 points in the Program of the Year standings, good for fourth place behind Northern Arizona (16 points), Arkansas (18.5) and Oregon (19.5). Syracuse rounds out the top-five at 23.5 points.
Scoring for the award is based on each team's finish at the NCAA championship in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient.
The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is awarded annually to the nation's most outstanding cross country and track & field programs. The separate men's and women's awards honor the institutions that have achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field seasons) based on each institution's finish at their respective NCAA championships.
The 2017-18 Program of the Year winner will be announced in June following the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 6-9, at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
