Sophomore Jordan Lewis led the Crimson Tide by tying her career high with 22 points
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team fell to Arkansas, 74-66, on Sunday afternoon inside Coleman Coliseum.
The Crimson Tide (14-9, 4-6 SEC) could not overcome the Razorbacks (10-6, 1-2 SEC), despite stellar performances from sophomore Jordan Lewis and senior Quanetria Bolton.
"I'm disappointed today, and you have to credit an Arkansas team that had great balance," said head coach Kristy Curry. "They had four players in double figures and senior Devin Cosper played like a senior needs to play at this time of year. Beyond Jordan (Lewis) and NeNe (Bolton), we just didn't have a lot today, and I'm disappointed. I feel like we were coaching effort, demeanor and a will. Besides these two (Lewis and Bolton) I thought Amber (Richardson) and Jasmine (Walker) tried hard, but it's just disappointing and I don't have an explanation for it."
Lewis tied her career-high with 22 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists, while Bolton finished with a season-high 16 points and eight boards.
Arkansas jumped out to an early edge and never looked back, leading for nearly the entire game. The Razorbacks led by as many as eight in the first quarter, before the Tide cut the deficit to 19-14 after the first 10 minutes of action.
Arkansas continued to put the pressure on Alabama in the second quarter by building a 40-26 advantage at the half.
In the second half, the Tide battled back by pulling within seven points in the third quarter before the Razorbacks answered with a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach. Alabama outscored Arkansas, 24-16, in the fourth , however the Tide ran out of clock.
Alabama shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field and had 10 different players score in the loss, while Arkansas hit 46.7 percent (28-of-60) of its attempts overall and 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from three-point range. The Tide won the rebounding battle, 39-33.
Alabama will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. CT to take on No. 7 South Carolina in Coleman Coliseum. The game will air live on SEC Network.
