BATON ROUGE, La. – Alabama women's basketball was edged by No. 24 LSU, 79-78, in overtime at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday in the final game of the 2017-18 regular season. The Crimson Tide (17-12, 7-9 SEC) trailed by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lady Tigers (19-8, 11-5 SEC), 14-6, over the final four minutes of regulation to force the overtime period.
LSU led by two at the conclusion of the first quarter and scored 21 points compared to Alabama's 10 in the second to lead by 13 at the half. The Tide used another 14-6 run midway through the third quarter to pull within four, however the Lady Tigers pushed it back out to 13 by quarter's end. In the fourth, Alabama outscored LSU, 23-10, and led with four seconds remaining after senior Hannah Cook connected on a jumper to give the Tide a 70-68 edge. The Lady Tigers would use their final timeout to advance the ball and scored before time expired to send the game into overtime.
The two teams went back and forth in the bonus period with neither team leading by more than two until the 1:53 mark when junior Chloe Jackson hit a jumper to give LSU a three-point advantage. Senior Ashley Williams scored on the next possession for Alabama to make it a one-point game, and hauled in a huge defensive rebound on the other end of the court to give the Tide the ball back with less than 30 seconds to play. Alabama was unable convert offensively, however, giving the Lady Tigers the win.
Williams finished with her third double-double in the last four games with 15 points and a career-best 16 rebounds, while Cook chipped in a team-high 18 points. Junior Shaquera Wade also scored in double figures with 13 points. LSU was led by Jackson, who had 31 points and eight rebounds.
The Tide outrebounded the Tigers, 50-40, scoring 20 second-chance points in the contest off of its 21 offensive boards.
