Riley has five top-10 and four top-five results in the Tide’s five tournaments this season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior Davis Riley is one 20 golfers named to the Fred Haskins Award Watch List and remains ranked among the top five of the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings, both entities announced on Thursday. Riley, coming off a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic earlier this week, is ranked No. 2 in the Haskins Award and is No. 3 in the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings.
The Haskins Award is the oldest college golf award (dating back to 1971) and is the only award that is voted on by players, coaches, sports information directors, and select golf media - there is no committee that makes this decision. Voting will open at the end of the NCAA Regionals and run through the end of the NCAA Tournament.
Meanwhile, the top six men's collegiate golfers in the final spring Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings will join the top six ranked women's collegiate golfers as part of the 24-player United States squad that will compete against a team of international college golfers. The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup will be held from July 6-8, at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France.
Following his finish at the Puerto Rico Classic, Riley has four top-five finishes and five top-10 results in Alabama's five tournaments played during the 2017-18 campaign. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native claimed his first career medalist honor when he captured the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sept. 17 with career-low 54-hole score of 7-under par 200. He finished the fall season as the top-ranked golfer in the nation according to Golfstat.com and is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation.
Riley and the Crimson Tide will be back in action March 5-7 when it competes at the Southern Highlands Masters, which will be played in Las Vegas, Nev.
