Senior averaged a double-double in last week’s wins against No. 11 Tennessee and Auburn
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama senior Ashley Williams was named the Southeastern Conference's Player of the Week for women's basketball, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday. This is her first weekly honor of the season and fourth of her career as she earned player of the week once in the 2014-15 season and freshman of the week twice during the 2013-14 season.
Williams had a monster week for the Crimson Tide, recording double-doubles in both of Alabama's wins, averaging 16.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the two games. On Thursday, she guided UA to its first victory in program history in Knoxville, which also snapped a 22-game losing streak against AP top 25 teams. Williams shot 70 percent from the field at Thompson-Boling Arena to finish with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding a career-high five assists in the contest.
Three days later, and on Senior Day nonetheless, she backed up her performance against the Vols with another double-double, recording a team-high 17 points and game-best 10 rebounds to go along with three steals and a block against rival Auburn.
The pair of double-doubles gave Williams 16 for her career, and she currently stands at No. 10 in career points (1,345) and No. 7 in career rebounds (792) at Alabama.
