Junior Davis Riley tied for sixth to give Crimson Tide two among the top-10 individuals
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Senior Lee Hodges carded a second round score of 3-under par 68 on Monday to move atop the leaderboard after two rounds of the Puerto Rico Classic with a 36-hole total of 7-under 135 (67-68). As a team, the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will enter Tuesday's final round in sixth place with a team total of 10-over par 578 (286-292).
Battling windy conditions throughout the second round, Hodges was one of only eight players in the field who shot below par during Monday's 18 holes. Even more impressive is the fact that the senior from Ardmore, Tenn., has yet to record a bogey through the opening 36 holes of the event. Hodges has recorded an eagle, five birdies and 30 pars across the first two rounds. As a result, he holds a one-stroke lead over North Carolina State's Stephen Franken (136).
Meanwhile, Riley, who entered the tournament rated as the No. 1 player in Golfstat.com's rankings, is four strokes back of Hodges with a 3-under par 139. Riley followed his opening round of 3-under par 68 with an even par 71 on Monday. He and Hodges are two of just 11 golfers in the field to have scores under par after 36 holes of play.
Freshman Wilson Furr, playing in his second collegiate event, is in a tie for 52nd after a two-day total of 9-over par 151 (75-76), while senior Steven Setterstrom is in a tie for 60th at 153 (76-77). Senior Jonathan Hardee rounds out the Tide's starting five in a tie for 68th position with a 156 (79-77).
In addition to the Tide's starting five, Alabama sophomore Josh Sedeno and freshman Davis Shore are two of 23 total players who are competing as individuals in the event, playing on the par 72, 6,902-yard River Course. Sedeno is currently in a tie for sixth among the individual players after back-to-back rounds of 74 for a 36-hole total of 4-over par 148. Meanwhile, Shore is in a tie for 12th entering the final round with a 9-over 153 (75-78).
Seventh-ranked Georgia Tech leads the 15-team field through 36 holes of play with a team score of 6-under par 562. Tournament host Purdue is in second and the only other team at below par entering the final round of play with a 1-under 567. Defending national champion and No. 8-ranked Oklahoma, No. 16 Clemson and No. 35 North Carolina State are all tied for third at 2-over par 570, eight strokes ahead of the Tide.
The Crimson Tide will tee off its third and final round with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT. Alabama will be paired alongside Clemson and North Carolina State. Live scoring can be found throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
