Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou Win Singles Championships at CCB Collegiate Invitational

Ortiz won the Crimson Draw final, while Zhou was victorious in the White Draw final
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Juniors Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou won their respective singles draws in the CCB Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham on Sunday.
Ortiz cruised to a 6-1, 6-4, victory over Frazier Rengifo (ETSU) in the Crimson Draw final while Zhou won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, against Stijn Slump (Middle Tennessee) in the White Draw final. The two each finished the tournament 4-0 in singles competition.
In consolation action, sophomore Sam Fischer lost his match to No. 107 David Gonzalez (ETSU), 6-2, 6-3. In doubles consolation, Ortiz/Zhou continued their winning with an 8-6 victory over Kotorman/Ruetzel (Tulane), while Fischer/Rebol (Samford) won 8-5 against Akhtar/Manchev (UAB).
Next up for Alabama men's tennis, sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta will travel to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 7-11 in Surprise, Ariz.
