Alabama Soccer Announces 2019 Freshman Class on National Signing Day

The Crimson Tide inks ten to its 2019 freshman class
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's soccer head coach Wes Hart announced the signing of 10 standouts to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. The 2019 freshman class includes, Katarina Baehren, Allie Berk, Macy Clem, AJ Crooks, Carlee Giammona, Serena Pham, Reyna Reyes, Bella Scaturro, Sydney Vincens, and Carly Wyatt.
"We are thrilled with the 2019 recruiting class," said Wes Hart. "This class is loaded with talent from some of the best clubs throughout the country. Several of them have youth national team experience, including Reyna Reyes, who is playing for Mexico at the U17 World Cup right now. I expect players in this class to step right in and impact the program from day one. The fact that four of them (Reyes, Giammona, Crooks, and Baehren) will be joining us in January is huge. They'll have all spring to get adjusted to life as a college soccer player."
Katarina Baehren
Cypress, Texas | Cypress Ranch HS/ Challenge SC | Defender
"An outside back, with great size and a tremendous left foot. Her throw-in will be a weapon," said Wes Hart.
Baehren, a 5-10 defender from Cypress, Texas, spent five-years playing for Challenge Soccer Club for head coach Chris Maravaliei, where she led the team to the ECNL National playoffs. She also recorded the most goals and assists on her team during two national playoffs. While playing at Cypress Ranch High School, Baehren was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-District, and Honorable Mention All-State. She was also named Second Team Greater-Houston Areas and Top-Drawer Soccer Winter State Stars.
Allie Berk
Atlanta, Ga. | Marist HS/Top Hat Soccer | Midfield
"Allie is a clever, attacking minded midfielder who can score goals and create opportunities for others," said Wes Hart.
Berk is a 5-4 midfielder from Atlanta, Ga. She led her team to two State Runner-Up titles and earned All-State honors at Marist High School. During her club career with the Top Hat Soccer for coach Troy Garner, Berk was named team captain.
Macy Clem
Conifer, Colo. | Mullen HS/Colorado Rush | Midfield
"Macy will provide a physical presence in our midfield," said Wes Hart. "She has size and strength to go along with great feet."
Clem, a 5-7 midfielder out of Conifer, Colo., spent her club career with the Colorado Rush for coach Nick Blanco. She led the team to nationals in 2014 and led the team in assists in 2017.
AJ Crooks
Spokane, Wash. | Central Valley HS/Colorado Rush/ Spokane Sounders | Goalkeeper
"A top-class goalkeeper, with youth national team experience," said Wes Hart. "AJ is capable of making big saves and is very comfortable with the ball at her feet."
Crooks, a 5-9 goalkeeper from Spokane, Wash., played at Central Valley High School and won First Team All-GSL. In 2018, she was named the Non-High School Female Athlete of the Year at the Spokane Youth Awards. Crooks also brings experience playing at the USA National Team Camps for U15 and U17.
Carlee Giammona
Las Vegas, Nev. | Palo Verde HS/Heat FC | Midfield
"An attacking player with youth national team experience and an incredible mentality, Carlee is a competitor and a winner," said Wes Hart. "Her versatility will allow her to be effective in a variety of position and roles for us."
Giammona, a 5-7 midfielder from Las Vegas, Nev. was named the Southwest Conference Player of the Year, ENCL All-American, and MVP, while playing for Heat FC under for Key Reid. At Palo Verde High School, Giammona led the team to All-Sunset Region, All-Southern Nevada, and All-Northwest League title. Giammona was called up to play with the U16 and U18 US Women's National Team.
Serena Pham
Chantilly, Va. | Chantilly HS/Mclean ECNL | Midfield
"A quick, creative and wide midfielder that excels in taking players on and getting quality service in the box," said Wes Hart.
Pham, a 5-3 midfielder from Chantilly, Va., joins played for Chantilly High School for coaches Brent Liba, Clyde Watson, and Nadir Noomen. Pham earned First Team All-District in back-to-back seasons, First Team All-Region, and was twice named First Team All-Metropolitan by the Washington Post. Pham was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Conference Team Mid-Atlantic last season.
Reyna Reyes
Garland, Texas | Naamon Forest HS/FC Dallas | Midfield/ Defender
"Reyna is tough, physical, and ultra-competitive," said Wes Hart. "She can play a variety of positions. She plays outside back for the U17 Mexico National Team but often plays in the midfield for her club team."
Reyes, a FC Dallas and U17 Mexico National Team defender, comes to the Capstone from Garland, Texas. She is currently preparing for the U17 World Cup. In 2018, Reyes was named Best Right Back at the 2018 CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship. In 2017, Reyes scored the winning goal to help FC Dallas snag the U16 ECNL National title, 2-1. In 2016, she helped the U17 Mexican National Team capture the bronze medal at the International Women's Tournament of Gradisca in San Valentino, Italy. Reyes was named Midfielder of the Year and a two-time Athlete of the Year under coach Matt Grubb.
Bella Scaturro
Lakewood, Colo. | D'Evelyn HS/ Colorado Rush | Defender
"Bella is a tenacious defender that will have little trouble adapting to the college game," said Wes Hart.
Scaturro, a 5-3 defender from Lakewood, Colo., spent her club career playing for Colorado Rush under head coach Nick Bianco, where she helped her team snag the U12 Region Four Championships in 2013. At D'Evelyn High School, Scaturro led her team to a state championship and earned All-State honors in 2017.
Sydney Vincens
Mandeville, La. | St. Scholastica Academy /Mandeville Soccer Club | Forward
"A striker that is lethal in front of the goal. Sydney's size and ability in the air will be a tremendous asset for us," said Wes Hart.
Vincens, a 6-0 forward out of Mandeville, La., competed at St. Scholastica Academy. Vincens led her team to two state championships and was First Team All-District in three-consecutive years. In addition, Vincens earned multiple accolades in 2018 including, All-Metro Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-State, and Gatorade Player of the Year.
Carly Wyatt
Tyler, Texas | Robert E. Lee HS/FC Dallas | Forward
"A prolific goal scorer that can find the back of the net in a variety of ways. Carly has great size and strength that allows her to be a successful target," said West Hart.
Wyatt, a 5-8 forward inks out of Tyler, Texas, played at Robert E. Lee and earned First Team All-District honors. While playing at FC Dallas for coach Dan Marcilo, Wyatt was named the Offensive Player of the Year during the 2017-18 season.
