
Crimson Tide Continues to Shine at USTA $15k Futures Event in Birmingham

Four players advanced to the third round of qualifying on Saturday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four Crimson Tide men's tennis players moved on to the third round of qualifying for the USTA $15k Futures event in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday.
Sophomore Jeremy Gschwendtner won his closely-contested match against Korey Lovett, 7-6, 7-6, while No. 16 seed junior Alexey Nesterov bested Nicolas Rouanet, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Edson Ortiz kept the winning going, with a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Alex Bancila and sophomore Riccardo Roberto picked up his second win of qualifying by cruising past Jarryd Woog, 6-0, 6-2.
In the first round, which was played due to rain on Friday, junior No. 10 seed Zhe Zhou defeated Zachary Smith, 6-2, 6-4, to move to the second round, before falling to Patrick Daciek, 6-2, 7-6.
Play will continue tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT.
