
Edson Ortiz Falls Just Short of Qualifying for Main Draw of ITA All-American Championships

Ortiz defeated his first nationally-ranked opponent of his career in his first match of the day before falling in the qualifier finals
TULSA, Okla. – Junior Edson Ortiz came up a bit short of qualifying for the 2018 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships main draw on Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Center in Tulsa, Okla.
To begin the day, Ortiz earned his first win over a nationally-ranked opponent using a come-from-behind effort against No. 74 Yuval Solomon (Wake Forest), 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Later in the afternoon, Ortiz held the 5-4 advantage in the third set before Alex Rotsaert (Stanford), came back to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-5.
The Chihuahua, Mexico native, will begin play in the main draw of doubles with senior Mazen Osama on Oct. 4-8.
