Edson Ortiz and Riccardo Roberto Move on to Second Round in ITA Southern Regional Championships Doubles Draw

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Junior Edson Ortiz and sophomore Riccardo Roberto moved on to the second round in doubles at the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Friday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
Ortiz/Roberto defeated Guillermo Agost/Aljaz Kaplja (Jacksonville State), 8-7(3) and will take on Tyler Schick and Hamish Stewart (Tulane) on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.
Also on Friday, sophomore Sam Fischer fell in a singles consolation match against Michael Durham (Auburn), 6-4, 6-2.
Saturday's schedule includes two rounds of main draw doubles at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., along with one round of main draw singles at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Fischer and junior Zhe Zhou play against Pearse Dolan/Arthur Libaud (Louisiana) tomorrow morning, while No. 6 seed Kaukovalta/Nesterov matchup with Tom El Safadi/Daniel Janko (UAB).
In the first round of singles play tomorrow, Ortiz will take on Malik Bhatnagar (LSU), Zhou will play Niclas Braun (Mississippi State), sophomore Patrick Kaukovalta will compete against Stewart (Tulane), while Roberto will play Rafael Wagner (LSU) and Alexey Nesterov will matchup against Tyler Schick (Tulane).
