TULSA, Okla. – The Alabama men's tennis team will hit the road for the first time in 2018 when it takes on Tulsa inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., on Sunday at noon.
The Crimson Tide is off to its best start since 2003 after winning its first eight matches to begin the dual match season. 15 years ago, the Tide started the season 11-0 before falling to Arkansas, 4-3, on March 2, 2003.
Last weekend, Alabama overcame its toughest test of the season by defeating Virginia Tech, 4-1 on Jan. 26 and then shutting out Penn State, 4-0, on Jan. 28.
Sophomores Edson Ortiz and Alexey Nesterov have compiled 6-0 records in singles play to lead the Tide. In singles, UA is an outstanding 31-3 in singles matches this season. In doubles play, junior Mazen Osama and Ortiz are 5-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot so far in 2018.
The Golden Hurricanes have two singles players in the ITA rankings including No. 56 Majed Kilani and No. 82 Joshua Goodger. Tulsa has played one of the toughest schedules so far this season by falling to three ranked opponents in No. 19 Cal, No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 22 Tulane.
