
Sam Fischer and Zhe Zhou Complete Day One of Commodore Scramble

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama sophomore Zhe Zhou and freshman Sam Fischer completed the first day of the Commodore Scramble on Friday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn. The two competed in two rounds of doubles and a round of singles to begin the three-day tournament.
Zhou earned his first singles win of the fall season, battling to a three-set victory over George Hedley of Louisville, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The Tianjin, China, native will advance to take on No. 25 Daniel Valent of Vanderbilt tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Fischer fell to Tate Allwardt of Vanderbilt in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 and will take on Alex Rushin of Auburn in the second round of singles play tomorrow.
In the opening round of doubles, the No. 16 doubles pair in the country, Billy Rowe/Lachlan McPhee of Vanderbilt defeated Fischer/Zhou 6-3. Later in the afternoon, Fischer/Zhou bounced back with a 6-4 victory over Cameron Green/Drew Singerman of Furman.
The two will take on Alejandro Manzanares/Jorge Ortegon of Lipscomb, in the third round of doubles tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
The tournament is comprised of seven teams, including, Alabama, Auburn, Furman, Lipscomb, Louisville, LSU, and Vanderbilt.
Play will continue on Saturday with two rounds of singles and a round of doubles. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with a final flight of doubles and singles.
