With the school year underway, Alabama Men's Tennis Q&A's will be conducted throughout the fall to introduce and catch up with players on the team. The sixth and final Q&A is introducing Grant Stuckey, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C.
What inspired you to start playing tennis?
"My dad did, he taught me from an early age and he got me into the game."
When did you start playing?
"When I was 3 my dad basically put a racket in my hand and helped me swing it."
What made you come here to play tennis?
"I liked the campus, I like Coach (George) Husack, he's a really nice guy and he wants to see me get better. And also I really liked the facilities here."
What's the biggest difference between Charlotte and Tuscaloosa?
"Here everybody is really friendly and really nice, and they want to see me succeed."
Were you ever an Alabama fan growing up?
"They actually recruited me, I was actually a big Buckeye fan growing up because both my parents went to Ohio State, and so I'm going to have to transition now."
How do your parents feel about you being at Alabama?
"They are happy, they want to see me be successful here and go somewhere that they didn't go."
When did you start getting recruited by Alabama and why did you choose to come here?
"They started recruiting me my sophomore year, they would send me monthly letters about the tennis and football team which I thought was really cool. (Coach)Â Husack started contacting me really earlier and I liked him and he took me on my unofficial visit here during my junior year and I really liked the campus."
How's the transition from high school to starting college in the summer been for you?
"It was good, I was really nervous going to college so it really helped the nerves and getting adjusted to college life."
Now that school has started and everybody is back, how's that been for you?
"It's nice, I just got to meet the guys, I really like them."
What are your expectations for this year?
"Right now I'm just working on getting better and stronger. Especially working on my strong point in my game like my forehand, and my serve."
What are your goals this year, individually and as a team?
"Individually, I'd like to be in the starting lineup, and hopefully I can win a few matches in the Spring to help the team."
