Alabama Men’s Tennis Finishes Day Two of Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis completed day two of the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall at the Alabama Tennis Stadium on Saturday. Sophomore Edson Ortiz remains perfect in singles play, and will play in the Houndstooth Draw Final tomorrow, after defeating James Davis of Oklahoma in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon.
Ortiz has won all three of his singles matches so far in the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall and we will take on Jake Van Emburgh of Oklahoma, tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
Freshman Grant Stuckey, earned his first win of his collegiate career, defeating Jacob Eskeland of Rice, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Alexey Nesterov earned his second straight singles win, taking down Daniel Rayl of Notre Dame in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Freshman Sam Fischer and sophomore Zhe Zhou earned their first two wins as a doubles pairing, first defeating Mohamed Abdul-Aziz and Eric Rutledge of Rice, 8-4 and then battling to an 8-6, decision over Vuk Budic and Caleb Chakravarthi of Illinois. Fischer and Zhou finished the tournament 2-1 in doubles play.
In doubles play, Ortiz and Nesterov, moved past Terrance Whitehurst and Terrell Whitehurst of Florida State on a walk-over, due to injury.
The Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall will continue tomorrow with the final round of singles play. All matches are set to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
