Alabama Women’s Tennis Catching Up with the Crimson: Smith Hinton

With the school year underway, Alabama's Women's Tennis Q&A's will be conducted throughout the fall to introduce and catch up with players on the team. The next player introduced is Smith Hinton, a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina.
What inspired you to play tennis?
I am the first person in my family to play tennis. I enjoyed doing the clinics and camps when I was younger.
Why did you choose to play collegiate tennis?
I love competing and knew I wanted to continue and grow my tennis game after junior tennis.
Why did you decide to come and compete for The University of Alabama?
I chose to come to the University of Alabama because they have so much school spirit and I fell in love with the campus.
What do you like most about the University of Alabama?
I love the tradition and GAMEDAY FOOTBALL GAMES!!
Do you prefer playing singles or doubles? Why?
I enjoy both but I enjoy playing singles because I love competing and grinding out long matches.
What are some of your personal and team goals for this upcoming season?
My personal goal for the season is to be a great leader since I am the only senior on the team, and the team goals is to compete every match and work towards making postseason play.
What motivates you?
My teammates motivate me and push me to become the best person on and off the court.
What is the greatest part about being a student-athlete for The University of Alabama?
Being a student-athlete at the best school in the country is such a small percent of students and the way the University gives us so many opportunities to be able to compete in a sport that we love is incredible in itself.
What are some of your hobbies outside of tennis?
I really enjoy running in my free time and spending time with friends.
What advice would you give to young tennis players?
I would say really enjoy the time you have on the court because college tennis goes by so quickly. Don't waste any moments, they are precious!
What do you plan to do with your tennis career after your career ends here at The University of Alabama?
I think it would be very cool and exciting to go into college coaching for tennis.
