
Alabama Men’s Golf Closes First Round in Three-Way Tie for First at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational

Junior Davis Riley leads Tide after opening 18 holes of 4-under par 66
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Senior Davis Riley matched his career-low round with a 4-under par 66 to lead the No. 19 Alabama men's golf team on Friday in the first round of the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational. As a team, the Crimson Tide finished the day with an even par 280 and will enter Saturday's second round in a three-way tie for first place.
Riley continued his hot start to the 2017-18 season, as he collected seven birdies, along with a bogey and double bogey to finish the day in a tie for second overall. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native began his day with five birdies over the first seven holes, as three of his last four rounds this year have been in the 60s. Riley, along with Illinois' Nick Hardy (66) and Texas A&M's Josh Gliege (66), trail clubhouse leader Zach Bauchou of Oklahoma State (64) by two strokes entering the second round of play.
Senior Jonathan Hardee is in a tie for 11th after carding a 1-under par 69 on the par-70, 7,353-yard Olympia Fields Country Club North Course. Freshman Davis Shore finished the day at 2-over par 72 and is in a tie for 27th overall. Senior Lee Hodges (73) and sophomore Josh Sedeno (74) round out the Crimson Tide golfers in 37th and 45th place, respectively.
Alabama will enter the second round in a tie with No. 1 Oklahoma State (280) and No. 4 Baylor (280). Sixth-ranked Texas A&M (281) is in fourth, while No. 20 Florida State (282) rounds out the top five. The 15-team field features 10 teams ranked among the top 20 in the nation.
The Crimson Tide will tee off its second round at 8:45 a.m. CT off Hole No. 1. Live scoring can be found throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
