Alabama Men's Tennis Player Thibault Cancel Ranked in Oracle ITA Preseason Singles

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama sophomore Thibault Cancel came in at No. 72 in the Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association Singles preseason rankings, the organization announced Tuesday.
The second-year standout out of Toulouse, France, comes into the 2017-18 campaign ranked as a Top-25 player in the Southeastern Conference. Cancel is coming off an impressive first year at Alabama, compiling a 17-15 overall record in 2016-17, which was good enough for second-most wins on the team.
Cancel was named the 2017 ITA South Region Rookie of the Year to go along with Second Team All-SEC honors a year ago. The talented sophomore racked up five wins against nationally-ranked opponents last season, while earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors on Feb. 8. Cancel was also crucial to the Tide in doubles play, finishing tied for first on the team with 11 wins during the 2017 dual match season.
Cancel will begin his 2017-18 season in the ITA Oracle Masters Tournament in Malibu, Calif., on Sept. 21-24. The Crimson Tide as a team will begin its season on Sept. 22-24 by hosting the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall Tournament in Tuscaloosa. Alabama will welcome Florida State, Illinois, Memphis, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Rice, and Tulane to the event.
