
Alabama Swimming Duo Posts Top-20 Finishes at USA Swimming National Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama swimming and diving's Robert Howard and Luke Kaliszak both earned a place in finals at the 2017 USA Swimming National Championships and World Championship Trials.
The trials were held in Indianapolis, Ind., at the IUPUI Natatorium, where both men compete in the 2017 NCAA Championships in March, helping lead Alabama to its third-consecutive top-10 national finish.
Kaliszak, who posted a top-five finish in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championship in spring, made the championship final of the 50-meter backstroke, getting under the 25-second mark with a sixth-place time of 24.97.
The Huntsville, Ala., native also finished 10th in the prelims of the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.44, followed by 55.65 to take sixth in the B final. The rising senior took 18th in the prelims of the 50-meter butterfly, turning in a 24.38.
Howard notched a top-20 finish in the prelims of the highly competitive 50-meter freestyle, touching the wall with a 22.83, to take 19th place. The Alexander City, Ala., native also posted a career-best time in the prelims of the 100-meter freestyle, cracking 50 seconds for the first time with a 49.97. He also posted a 1:52.56 in the 200-meter freestyle.
