Senior remains in contention for collegiate track & field’s highest honor
EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama senior Quanesha Burks was named to the pre-NCAA Championships Bowerman Award Watch List, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday. The Bowerman Award is collegiate track & field's highest individual honor.
The national leader in the long jump, this is Burks' fifth appearance on the Bowerman list this season and the seventh of her career. Burks will begin competition at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday. Individually, the Hartselle, Ala., native is entered in the long jump and 100 meters and will also run on the Crimson Tide's 4x100-meter relay.
Burks is the school record holder in the women's indoor and outdoor long jump and won her third consecutive Southeastern Conference outdoor long jump title at the 2017 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 12. She is just the fourth Tide female track & field athlete to win three or more conference titles in one individual event.
At the SEC Relays on April 29, she anchored the Tide 4x100-meter relay team to a school-record time of 43.17. The Hartselle, Ala., native won the NCAA indoor long jump in 2016 and the outdoor crown in 2015 and the indoor conference title in 2015. She holds the top-10 indoor and outdoor long jump marks in Crimson Tide history.
