Alabama Track and Field Senior Alex Gholston Earns Academic All-America Honors for Second Time

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama women's track and field senior Alex Gholston was selected to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Team it was announced Friday. The Alabama native was one of 15 NCAA Division I first-team honorees for the second year in a row.
"Alex is living proof that at The University of Alabama, you can truly have it all," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "To be a multiple time All-American and Academic All-American is a tremendous feat. We are very proud of Alex and everything she accomplished as part of our program."
A May graduate with a 3.9 cumulative grade point average, Gholston is the first member of the women's track and field team to earn First Team Academic All-America honors twice in a career. An English major from Town Creek, Ala., she is a six-time All-American, earning first-team honors during the indoor season in the 400 meters and as part of the 4x400-meter relay as a senior. She is also part of the school-record setting indoor 4x400m relay and earned All-Southeastern Conference honors at 400m at the 2017 SEC indoor championships.
The sixth members of the Alabama women's track and field team to earn Academic All-America honors. Gholston's 2017 honor is the ninth by a member of the UA women's track and field team and the 17th by the men's and women's team combined. Gholston and senior Peyton Ballard earned a place on the 2017 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Track & Field/Cross Country Team earlier this season.
