The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team honors the top student-athletes of the 2016-17 season from all five divisions of college tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – Alabama's senior Erin Routliffe and freshman Maddie Pothoff were named to the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Collegiate All-Star Team, announced by the ITA on Wednesday. The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team honors the top student-athletes of the 2016-17 season from all five divisions of college tennis.
The ITA Collegiate All-Star Team features the nation's top-ranked men's and women's players from the year-end Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, in addition to winners of the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and 2017 NCAA Division I and III Championships.
Routliffe and Pothoff finished the year ranked No. 2 nationally in doubles. The Crimson Tide pairing advanced to the final of the 2017 NCAA doubles tournament, where they fell in three sets to Ohio State's Francesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase. Pothoff and Routliffe earned ITA All-America honors, just the fourth pair in Alabama women's tennis history to earn the accolade. Routliffe also earned All-America honors in singles.
Together the two registered nine wins over nationally-ranked doubles opponents this past season, including four victories against ranked opponents in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The tandem topped Stanford's No. 39-ranked doubles pair Emily Arbuthnott and Taylor Davidson, Georgia Tech's No. 29-ranked doubles team Kenya Jones and Paige Hourigan, Denver's No. 17-ranked doubles duo Julia O'Loughlin and Maureen Slattery and LSU's No. 16-ranked doubles team Ryann Foster and Joana Valle Costa en route to a championship match appearance in the NCAA doubles bracket. The most notable win the pair had on the year was in a 7-6(4) decision against Kentucky's No. 4-ranked doubles team Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi.
