Senior long jumper in contention for collegiate track & field’s highest honor
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama senior long jumper Quanesha Burks has earned a spot on the latest Bowerman Award Watch List, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday. The Bowerman Award is collegiate track & field's highest individual honor.
This is Burks' third appearance on the Bowerman list this season and the fifth of her career. Burks is the school record-holder in the women's indoor and outdoor long jump and anchored Alabama's 4x100-meter relay to a school-record time of 43.17 at the SEC Relays last Saturday. The Hartselle, Ala., native won the NCAA indoor long jump in 2016 and the outdoor crown in 2015. She is also the two-time defending SEC outdoor long jump champion and won the indoor conference title in 2015. Burks holds the top-10 indoor and outdoor long jump marks in Crimson Tide history.
Burks currently owns the top women's long jump mark in the country at 22-7 ¾ (6.90m), which she set at the SEC Relays on April 28. She is also ranked 12th nationally in the 100 meters at 11.18.
Burks will defend her SEC outdoor title at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 11-13 at the University of South Carolina.
