Crimson Tide teams climb in rankings heading into next week's NCAA Championships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's track and field team moved up one spot to No. 3, while the women climbed three spots to No. 11 in the latest U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings, released Tuesday. The men's team is ranked with 235.10 points while the women's team checks in with 147.39 points.
The national team rankings are compiled by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Ranking points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.
At last week's NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Ky., Alabama qualified 19 athletes in 17 events and the men's and women's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays for the 2017 NCAA Track and Field Championships, which will be held June 7-10 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
