Top eight teams at the end of Monday’s round will advance to match-play final
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – After being washed out on Saturday, the Alabama women's golf team returned to action Sunday for the second round of the 2017 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at the par-72, 6,343-yard Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Alabama finished the round with a 25-over par 313 and now sits in 21st place in the team standings at 65-over par (328-313/641). Northwestern (301-298/599) leads at 23-over par. Kent State (303-304/607) is second at 31-over par. Stanford (311-298/609) is third at 33-over par. Ohio State (311-299/610) is fourth at 34-over par. Baylor (311-300/611) is fifth at 35-over par.
"We seemed to drive the ball a lot better today," head coach Mic Potter said. "But we didn't save shots when we needed to save shots and little mistakes here and there added up. When that happens, you don't give yourself a chance to make birdies. This is a tough course but we have to take some lessons from this and get better at being uncomfortable. Courses like this will make you feel that way."
Sophomore Cheyenne Knight (78-76/154) is tied for 32nd at 10-over par, 10 shots off the lead. Freshman Kristen Gillman (78-78/156) is tied for 45th at 12-over par. Sophomore Lauren Stephenson (85-75/160) was the low scorer for the Tide today and is tied for 75th at 16-over par. Junior Lakareber Abe (87-84/171) is in 128th place at 27-over par. Senior Mia Landegren (89-84/173) is 29-over par and tied for 130th place.
The top eight teams following Monday's final round will advance to match-play, with the quarterfinals and semifinals on Tuesday and the championship match on Wednesday.
Alabama will be paired with Florida State and Clemson in Monday's final stroke-play round and will tee off at 6:45 a.m. from the first tee.
