Senior long jumper remains in contention for collegiate track & field’s highest honor
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama senior long jumper Quanesha Burks was named to the latest Bowerman Award Watch List, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday. The Bowerman Award is collegiate track & field's highest individual honor.
This is Burks' fourth appearance on the Bowerman list this season and the sixth of her career. Burks is the school record-holder in the women's indoor and outdoor long jump and won her third consecutive Southeastern Conference outdoor long jump title at the 2017 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 12. She is just the fourth Tide female track & field athlete to win three or more conference titles in one individual event.
At the SEC Relays on April 29, she anchored the Tide 4x100-meter relay team to a school-record time of 43.17. The Hartselle, Ala., native won the NCAA indoor long jump in 2016 and the outdoor crown in 2015 and the indoor conference title in 2015. Burks holds the top-10 indoor and outdoor long jump marks in Crimson Tide history.
Burks will next be in action when the Crimson Tide competes at the 2017 NCAA East Regional at the University of Kentucky, May 25-27.
