Crimson Tide men remain No. 1 in the South Region; women now No. 5
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's track and field team moved up one spot to fourth while the women come in at No. 14 in the latest U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings, released Monday. The men's team posted 229.26 points while the women's team earned 124.91 points. In the final regional rankings of 2017, the men are ranked No. 1 in the South region for the sixth week in a row, while the women finish at No. 5.
The national team rankings are compiled by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Ranking points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.
Alabama's next meet will be the NCAA East Regional, which will be held May 25-27 at the University of Kentucky.
