Alfred Chelanga Sets Alabama 10,000 Meters Record at Stanford Invitational

Kosgei, Capek also run UA top-10 times in the 10,000 meters on Friday evening
PALO ALTO, Calif. – Junior Alfred Chelanga finished second - and was the first collegiate finisher -  in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational late Friday and set a new Alabama record with a time of 28:04.95. The time breaks the previous record of 28:20.22 set by Tyson David on May 2, 2009. David's record was also set in a meet at Stanford.
Senior Antibahs Kosgei finished 10th in the same race on Friday evening in a personal-best 28:35.79, a time that ranks No. 3 all-time on the Alabama 10,000-meter list.
Also late Friday, freshman Hannah Capek ran the eighth-fastest women's 10,000-meter time in school history at 34:50.72 to finish 22nd in her collegiate 10,000 meters debut.
Earlier on Friday evening, junior Conner Thompson finished seventh in his section in the men's 5,000 meters in a personal-best 14:19.39. Senior Hannah Waggoner finished ninth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:21.12, the eighth-fastest time in school history and sophomore Nicole Gardner finished 11th in the steeplechase in 10:51.84.
