Alabama Women’s Tennis Q&A: Maddie Pothoff

RollTide.com will be posting Q&A's of each member on this year's Alabama women's tennis team so fans can get to know the members of our Crimson Tide family. The fourth Q&A is with Maddie Pothoff, a skilled freshman from Tucson, Ariz. Pothoff has an overall 11-8 mark in singles play, including a 4-4 record since beginning the dual match season. In doubles play, Pothoff has an impressive overall 12-7 record, while posting an imposing 7-1 mark in the dual match season.
Q: What was your first visit to campus like?
A: It was everything I was hoping it would be and more! I was blown away by the campus and facilities. The team and coaches made me feel right at home.
Q: What surprised you most about Alabama?
A: How nice and welcoming everyone was! Southern hospitality at its finest.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: The beautiful desert scenery and all of my family and friends.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa?
A: Chuck's and Heritage House!
Q: What is your favorite tennis memory?
A: Signing my NLI to Alabama.
Q: Who inspired you most in tennis?
A: My dad because he was my first coach and my mom because she has always been so supportive of my tennis.
Q: When did playing tennis in college become a goal for you?
A: It's been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember.
Q: What song pumps you up to play?
A: Stronger – Kanye West.
Q: What is your favorite movie made before you were born?
A: Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: The Blind Side.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: Managing a collegiate or professional sports team.
Q: If you could live in a book, which book would you live in?
A: Any of the Divergent books.
Q: What is your favorite hobby outside of tennis?
A: Eating. Just ask any of my teammates!
Q: If you could meet any person in the world who would it be?
A: Mark Cuban!
Q: If you were playing a pro circuit what grand slam would you want to win most?
A: U.S. Open!
Q: What do you like to hear from fans when they are cheering for you?
A: "Lets go Bama" or "Here we go Tide!"
Q: What are some goals you look to achieve this spring season?
A: Win as many SEC matches as possible and play together as a family.
Q: If you weren't playing tennis what sport would you play?
A: Volleyball or Golf.
Q: Who would win an arm wrestling competition on the team?
A: Juju – She would probably beat most of our men's team too.
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
A: Christmas because all of the relatives are together.
Q: If you could give one message to your fans what would it be?
A: Thank you for your unwavering love and support! There's nothing better than seeing y'all up in the stands, cheering for us and showing us what it truly means to be part of the Alabama Crimson Tide family. Can't wait to see y'all pack the stands on Friday when we play Georgia! We love you, and Roll Tide!!!
