Rookie point guard now has as many freshman weekly honors as Alabama had as a program heading into the season
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama's Jordan Lewis picked up Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors following her performances against Tennessee and at Auburn, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award is Lewis' fifth of the season, which is as many freshman weekly awards as the Crimson Tide had total as a program heading into the 2016-17 season.
The Windermere, Fla., native scored three of Alabama's 10 points in overtime and pulled down two clutch defensive rebounds on Auburn's final two possessions in the bonus period to help seal the Tide's 63-61 victory over the Tigers, which was UA's first in Auburn since 2011. In Thursday's game against Tennessee, Lewis tied her career high in assists with eight, helping Alabama beat the Lady Vols in back-to-back games for the first time in program history.
For the week, Lewis averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals in 39.0 minutes of action. She's now up to 32.0 minutes per game overall and 34.0 minutes per game in SEC play, which is the most of any freshman in the league. She's also the only freshman to rank in the top 10 in the SEC in assists per game, averaging 4.0 per contest for the season.
