
Alabama Women’s Tennis Q&A: Andie Daniell

RollTide.com will be posting Q&A's of each member on this year's Alabama women's tennis team so fans can get to know the members of our Crimson Tide family. The first Q&A is with Andie Daniell, a skilled sophomore from Douglasville, Ga., who is studying human performance exercise science. Daniell plays the majority of her matches from the No. 2 singles and doubles positions, and she is currently ranked No. 30 in the nation in doubles play with partner senior Erin Routliffe.
Q: What was your first visit to campus like?
A: I remember being very impressed with the facilities. I was especially impressed with the indoor tennis facility, and the team atmosphere that I saw.
Q: What surprised you most about Alabama?
A: I did not think that Alabama could actually make me like football… I was wrong.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: My favorite thing about my hometown is that there is a lot of farm land and it is great to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and just enjoy nature.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa?
A: My favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa is probably Surin because I love sushi.
Q: What is your favorite tennis memory?
A: My favorite tennis memory is from when I was nine, and I played a doubles tiebreaker in front of an entire stadium before Pete Sampras and Roger Genipri played an exhibition match.
Q: Who inspired you most in tennis?
A: Even though I do not particularly like Serena Williams, she was the tennis player who inspired me the most when I was younger because she was so intense, passionate and she won a lot of course.
Q: When did playing tennis in college become a goal for you?
A: Probably around the age of 12 is when I thought it would be cool to play college tennis.
Q: What song pumps you up to play?
A: I like a variety of songs. It really depends on my mood, but most of the time I listen to the Glitch Mob or DC Talk.
Q: What is your favorite movie made before you were born?
A: The Three Amigos, Spies Like Us and Aladdin. Basically any Disney movie.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: My favorite movie is The Lord of the Rings (all of them).
Q: What is your dream job?
A: I am not really quite sure yet. I would like to be a physical therapist but I'm still weighing other options.
Q: If you could live in a book, which book would you live in?
A: Harry Potter. If I could live in a TV show it would probably be Avatar.
Q: What is your favorite hobby outside of tennis?
A: Painting.
Q: If you could meet any person in the world who would it be?
A: Roger Federer!!
Q: If you were playing a pro circuit what grand slam would you want to win most?
A: The U.S. Open, but to win the Wimbledon would be pretty cool as well.
Q: What do you like to hear from fans when they are cheering for you?
A: "Here we go AD. All Day!"
Q: Now that you're in your second season, what are some things you notice differently about yourself mentally, physically and emotionally compared to last year?
A: I definitely enjoy the team atmosphere more. I love being on a team, and having the chance to help those around me.
Q: What are some goals you look to achieve this spring season?
A: I would like to help the team make the NCAA's and win the whole thing.
Q: If you weren't playing tennis what sport would you play?
A: I would probably play soccer! I loved soccer as a little kid.
Q: Who would win an arm wrestling competition on the team?
A: Oh for sure Erin Routliffe. She's ripped!
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
A: My favorite holiday is Christmas because it's a great time to be with family and friends.
Q: If you could give one message to your fans what would it be?
A: I would like to thank the fans for all their energy and support to our program! It really means a lot and makes the experience here at UA electric!
