The Crimson Tide had 10 different players score in the win
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team won its fifth straight game after defeating Murray State, 68-47, Wednesday night in Coleman Coliseum.
"You know with it being our third game in four days, I thought (this game) was really good for our team," said head coach Kristy Curry. "It tested our toughness in spots and we were able to play a lot of different people with a lot of different combinations. I think it's something that we really needed at this point in the season. I like the way our kids responded. Our goals today were to outrebound them by 16, we did that, and to hold them under 56 (points), and we held them to 47."
"It was a really good second quarter, as we kind of took control there. It was a big bucket by Jordan (Lewis), which gave us momentum. We were able to come back out and capture that at the start of the third quarter. I thought Quanetria (Bolton) and Ashley (Knight) did a really good job inside. We got the ball inside better in the second half, and Ashley Knight was 7-of-9 (from the floor). I loved our post presence tonight. I loved the fact that we had numerous assists throughout our roster, with 15 assists tonight on 27 baskets, that's a good thing."
The Crimson Tide (9-3) outrebounded the Racers (4-7) 49-31 in the victory.
Sophomore Ashley Knight led the way for the Tide with a game-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds and four blocks. The four blocks moved Knight up to No. 3 all-time in career blocks at Alabama with 126. Sophomore Jasmine Walker had her best game in a Crimson Tide uniform, chipping in 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Racers kept pace with the Tide to begin the game after only trailing 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Alabama began to pull away by gaining a seven-point advantage when sophomore Jordan Lewis launched a half-court heave just before the halftime buzzer that found the bottom of the net to put UA up 30-20 heading into the break.
In the second half, the Tide offense continued to pour on the points, outscoring the Racers 22-15 in the third quarter, while holding the double-digit advantage throughout. It was more of the same in the final 10 minutes of play with Alabama leading by as much as 28 to keep Murray State at bay.
The Crimson Tide bench provided a spark by outscoring the Racers' bench 39-19, while the UA defense forced 19 Murray State turnovers.
The Tide will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. CT to take on Florida A&M in Coleman Coliseum. The game will air live on SEC Network+.
