Tide junior Vincent Kiprop tabbed as the favorite in the 10,000 meters
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's track & field team has been picked for a top-four finish at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by Track & Field News in the publication's latest issue.
Alabama checks in at No. 4 in the magazine's outdoor championships prediction, just behind Florida, USC and Texas A&M. Georgia rounds out the top-five in the championship forecast, which takes into account each team's returnees and incoming recruiting class for the 2018 outdoor season to forecast team scoring at the national meet. The 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place June 6-9 at the University of Oregon.
Individually, Tide junior Vincent Kiprop is the magazine's early favorite to win the men's 10,000 meters at the outdoor championships. Kiprop debuted with UA during the 2017 cross country season and captured Southeastern Conference Men's Runner of the Year honors after winning the individual title at the SEC Cross Country Championships in October.
Alabama will open the indoor portion of the 2018 track & field season at the UAB Blazer Invitational on Jan. 12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Tide will kickoff the outdoor season at the UTSA Invitational March 16-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
