Alabama Women’s Golf Wraps up Successful Fall Campaign

Crimson Tide posts four top-two finishes in four outings in September and October
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's golf team shot 99-under par in four fall tournaments to open the 2017-18 season and enters the break as the No. 1 team in the country. The Tide opened the season with a 35-under par (284-272-273/829) outing to finish second at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The performance ranks No. 2 all-time in Alabama history, trailing only the 39-under par 825 the Tide shot at the 2016 Mason Rudolph.
The Tide returned to action the following week and won the Schooner Fall Classic with a 21-under par (281-281-269/831) weekend. Alabama posted a pair of runner-up finishes in its two October outings in North Carolina, shooting a 30-under par 834 (285-279-270) at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational and a 13-under par 563 (278-285) at The Landfall Tradition, which was shortened to 36 holes to due to inclement weather.
Crimson Tide Boasts the Nation's Top Two Golfers
Alabama ends the fall season with the top two ranked golfers in the women's game. Junior Lauren Stephenson (first) and sophomore Kristen Gillman (second) top the Golfstat Statistical Rankings released Oct. 31 with scoring averages of 67.91 and 68.82, respectively.
Stephenson shared individual medalist honors at the Mason Rudolph Championship with a school-record 16-under par 200 (68-68-64) and went on to record a second place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic and a pair of third place finishes at the Ruths' Chris Tar Heel Invitational and The Landfall Tradition during the fall.
Gillman equaled Stephenson's record-setting performance with a 13-under par 200 (68-68-64) to win the par-71 Schooner Fall Classic and recorded three other top-10 finishes during the fall.
Alabama No. 1 in Golfstat Statistical Rankings
Heading into the break, Alabama is ranked first nationally by Golfstat with a 70.31 rating. Arkansas is No. 2 with a 71.10 rating, followed by Duke (71.16), UCLA (72.22) and South Carolina (72.45).
Next Outing
The Crimson Tide will be off until beginning the spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, Feb. 11-13, at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
