The 48-point margin is the Crimson Tide’s largest on the road since 1994, when Alabama defeated Troy 119-43
STATESBORO, Ga. – The Alabama women's basketball dominated Georgia Southern, 84-36, Sunday afternoon in Hanner Fieldhouse. The 48-point victory is the Crimson Tide's (4-0) largest on the road since Jan. 12, 1994 when UA won at Troy, 119-43.
"I loved the workmen-like approach that we had ever since we got on the bus in Tuscaloosa," said head coach Kristy Curry. "Our senior class did a great job with our leadership and I loved how they came to work today. They were very business-like, they enjoyed the trip, but when it was time to go to work on the court, they did so today."
Alabama had 10 different players score in its first road game of the season. Three seniors ended the day in double figures for the second consecutive game with Meoshonti Knight leading all scorers with 14 points, while Hannah Cook chipped in 13 points and Quanetria Bolton rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Sophomore Jordan Lewis finished with nine points and a career-high six steals in her first action of the season after returning from injury, and senior Alana da Silva had a great all-around game, with eight points and career-highs in rebounds (9) and assists (5).
The Crimson Tide controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 10-0 lead, just 2:30 into the contest and never looking back. Alabama continued to build the advantage in the first half, taking a 45-21 lead into halftime after shooting 50 percent from the field.
In the second half, the Tide furthered its lead by doubling up the Eagles in the third quarter, 22-11, and outscoring GSU in the fourth, 17-4.
Alabama's defense held Georgia Southern to 24 percent shooting in the game, including only allowing the Eagles to score 15 points in the second half. UA crashed the glass, and outrebounded Georgia Southern, 58-33, in the win.
The Tide will return to action for the Puerto Rico Clasico tournament, against NC State on Thursday Nov. 24, at 1:30 p.m. CT in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
