COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Alabama women's soccer dropped its fourth top-25 match on Thursdaynight, falling to No. 19 Texas A&M, 2-0, at Ellis Field in College Station, Texas. The Aggies (9-2-1) improve to 4-1 in the Southeastern Conference while the Crimson Tide (8-5-1) slips to 0-4-1 in conference play.
After a slow start opened the match, Texas A&M netted a goal in the 30th minute and extended its lead by two in the final minutes of the conference showdown to pick up its fifth-straight win.
Alabama pressured the goal early, putting up five shots and earning one corner in the opening stanza, but Texas A&M was able to capitalize on its lone shot on goal attempt of the first half for the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
After a quiet 10 minutes opened the match, the Aggies broke free in the 12th minute and attempted a cross from the right wing to get on board, but senior goalkeeper Kat Stratton intercepted the play to stop Texas A&M in its tracks.
Then in the 13th minute, Stratton stopped the Aggies again punching out back-to-back corner kicks to keep the game scoreless.
With under 30 minutes in the first half, Alabama launched its first shots of the game on two set-piece opportunities, but both shots rolled just outside the posts. A couple of minutes later, the Tide continued to pressure Texas A&M's net with shots from freshman Taylor Morgan and junior Emma Welch, but the pair of shots couldn't find the back of the net.
In the 30th minute, the Aggies took the lead, volleying their shot over the head of Stratton for the 1-0 advantage.
Texas A&M started the second half with three early shots, but none would pass Stratton, keeping the lead at a single goal.
Eager to tie the game at one apiece, Alabama put up three shots in the second half, but none found the right opening. Morgan fired a shot off the cross on a corner in the 71st minute, but the freshman's attempt was saved by the Aggie keeper. The Tide would again attack with two other shots provided by junior Abbie Boswell and freshman Nicole Lyubenko, but Texas A&M defended both of Alabama's threats.
