Alabama Men’s Tennis Completes Day Three of ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama men's tennis team completed day three at the ITA Southern Regional play in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday.
In the Doubles Main Draw, sophomores Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov defeated Edward Nguyen and Olle Thestrup of Auburn, 8-6, while sophomores Edson Ortiz and Zhe Zhou advanced after a walkover.
Cancel and Nesterov will take on Nikola Samardzic and Julian Saborio of LSU and Ortiz and Zhou will compete against Hamish Stewart and Tim Reutzel of Tulane in the Round of 16 on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In the Singles Main Draw, sophomore Zhe Zhou fell to Tim Dollman of UAB, 7-5, 6-3, while sophomore No. 72 Thibault Cancel dropped his first match of the tournament to Stefan Gonzalez of UAB, 6-2, 6-1.
Sophomore Alexey Nesterov also fell in his first match against Carles Sarrio of Auburn, 7-5, 6-4, while sophomore Edson Ortiz battled, but was defeated by No. 77 Ewan Moore of Tulane, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In the Main Draw Consolation, Cancel took care of Diego Chavarria of Auburn, 6-1, 6-2 and Nesterov defeated Tim Reutzel of Tulane, 6-1, 7-5.
