
Alabama Men’s Tennis Continues ITA Southern Regional Play

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Alabama men's tennis team won two singles matches and one doubles match in the first day of the main draws at the ITA Southern Regional play in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday.
In the Singles Main Draw, the Crimson Tide were a perfect 2-0, with sophomore Zhe Zhou taking down Chung Han Tsai of Southern Miss, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, while sophomore Edson Ortiz defeated Kenton Parton of UAB in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Zhou will advance to play Tim Dollman of UAB, while Ortiz will take on No. 77 Ewan Moore of Tulane. Both matches are slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Freshman Grant Stuckey fell in the consolation round of the qualifying draw to Viboosh Chandresekar of Auburn, 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles play, Ortiz and Zhou defeated Jiaqi Duan and Pelayo Antuna of Troy, 8-5. The pair will advance to play against Rafael Wagner and Agie Moreno of LSU on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Sophomores Thibault Cancel and Alexey Nesterov will see their first action as a doubles pairing at 5 p.m. on Saturday against Edward Nguyen and Olle Thestrup of Auburn.
Also on Saturday, No. 72 Cancel will play at 9 a.m. versus Stefan Gonzalez of UAB, while Nesterov will play at 10 a.m. against Carles Sarrio of Auburn.
