CLEARWATER, Fla. – Alabama freshman Elissa Brown and 2017 signee Kaylee Tow are two of 24 athletes selected to continue their training for a spot on the 2017 USA Softball Junior Women's National Team, announced Tuesday.
The 24 athletes were selected from a pool of 46 candidates following a two-day selection process. The training team will compete in various camps and exhibition games this summer as well as the World Cup of Softball XII before being narrowed to the final 17-player roster prior to the World Baseball Softball Confederation Junior Women's World Championship, held July-24-30 in Clearwater, Fla.
Brown, a native of Eclectic, Ala., is competing in her freshman season at Alabama. At Elmore County High School, she was a three-time All-State and four-time All-Metro honoree, ending her career as the AHSAA record holder in 12 statistical categories. She played club softball with the Birmingham Thunderbolts, helping guide them to third-place finishes at PGF nationals in 2015 and 2016.
Tow, who signed her national letter of intent in November, is completing her senior year at Madisonville North-Hopkins in Madisonville, Ky. where she posted top-five finishes at the state tournament in 2016 and 2014. This past season, she was named the KHSAA Class 3A State Player of the Year and was tabbed a First Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She earned FloSoftball Second Team All-America honors and All-State honors in each of the last two seasons and is also a three-time All-Region selection and four-time All-District honoree. She owns Kentucky state single-season records in hits, runs scored and walks and is currently ranked second in career runs and home runs.
