BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After opening its weekend at No. 23 Arkansas on Friday, fifth-ranked Alabama takes on No. 16 Auburn Sunday in the third-annual Elevate the Stage meet Sunday afternoon in Birmingham, Ala.'s Legacy Arena. Sunday will also be the Tiger's second meet in three days after competing at Florida on Friday.
Tickets for the meet, which gets underway at 4 p.m. CT, can be purchased online at ElevateTheStage.com or at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center (BJCC) box office.
On Sunday, all four apparatus will be competed on a raised platform, known as a podium in gymnastics circles. In addition to spotlighting the competitors, it also gives the equipment a little extra bounce. It is the same setup that the gymnasts will see at both the SEC and NCAA Championships.
In preparation for the first of two regular-season Alabama-Auburn matchups in 2017, both the Tide and Tigers went through a practice day Saturday afternoon to adjust to the equipment. Alabama is 2-0 in Elevate meets, including a 196.875-196.075 victory over Auburn in 2016.
Following Sunday's meet, Alabama returns home on Feb. 3 to take on the Florida Gators in the Tide's 13th annual Power of Pink meet. The Power of Pink initiative started under legendary Alabama coach Sarah Patterson to help raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum and online at RollTide.com.
