Junior honored after posting fastest time in the world in the 200 meters at Auburn Invitational
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama sprinter Jereem Richards was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Richards shared the honor with Mylik Kerley from Texas A&M.
Richards blazed to a time of 20.57 to easily outdistance the field in the 200 meters at the Auburn Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday. The time is not only the fastest in the nation this year but currently stands as the fastest time in the world so far in 2017 according to the latest International Association of Athletics Federations' (IAAF) world list.
The time is also the second-fastest indoor 200 meter effort in Alabama history, trailing only the 20.32 run by Diondre Batson at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Richards and the Crimson Tide will be in action this weekend at the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson University, Jan. 27-28.
