Alabama Men’s Tennis Falls to Michigan, 4-0, in College MatchDay Series

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Alabama men's tennis team lost a 4-0 decision to the 21st-ranked Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon in the inaugural 2017 College MatchDay series at the USTA National Campus. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to an overall 2-1 record.
"Good match by Michigan," said head coach George Husack. "They were the better squad. We're a very young team and it showed a bit tonight. A young colt takes a while to find its way in the world. We will grow and become more seasoned as they year moves along. I really like the path that we are on, and it's only going to get better with this rock solid stable that we have."
The Wolverines claimed the first doubles match of the contest, as Alex Knight and Runhao Hua topped Edson Ortiz and Alexey Nesterov, 6-1, on court two. Michigan went on to clinch the doubles point taking a 1-0 match lead headed into singles play, as Tyler Gardiner and Mylse Schalet defeated Thibault Cancel and Zhe Zhou in a 6-4 decision in the No. 3 spot.
Michigan brought that momentum to singles play, as Knight won in straight sets against Ortiz (No. 5), 6-2, 6-2, to extend its match lead to 2-0. Schalet topped Nesterov (No. 3) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, before Davis Crocker clinched the Wolverine match victory against sophomore Langford Hills (No. 6) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
