Junior Kiana Winston is ranked fifth in the all-around and in the top 10 on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the first time this season, the No. 4-ranked Alabama gymnastics team will not face the nation's No. 1 ranked team on Friday. Instead, after facing No. 1 Oklahoma to open the season and No. 1 LSU in last Friday's home opener, Alabama is back on the road this week taking on No. 8 Missouri.
After a week at No. 2, Oklahoma rebounded back into the top spot this week while LSU dropped back to No. 2. Florida is third for the second week in a row while Alabama is again No. 4. Utah rounds out the top five.
UCLA is sixth, followed by Denver at seven, Missouri at eight, Kentucky at nine and Nebraska at 10. The Southeastern Conference has three teams in the top four (LSU, Florida and Alabama) and five in the top 10 (LSU, Florida, Alabama, Missouri and Kentucky). All eight SEC teams that compete in gymnastics are ranked in the top 25, with Auburn at No. 11, Georgia at No. 16 and Arkansas at No. 23.
Alabama is ranked in the top 10 on all four events, coming in at No. 4 on the balance beam and floor exercise, No. 5 on the uneven bars and No. 7 on vault.
Kiana Winston continues the great start to her junior season, moving up to No. 5 in the all-around this week. She is also third on the uneven bars, sixth on the balance beam and ninth on the floor exercise. She has scored 9.95s on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise already this season. In addition to Winston, senior Aja Sims and junior Nickie Guerrero are tied for 14th on the balance beam.
On the road the next two weekends, Alabama's next home meet is Feb. 3 against Florida for the Tide's annual Power of Pink meet. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262), located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at RollTide.com.
