TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team collected three wins in doubles play and two victories in singles action to conclude the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall event on Sunday morning. Teams that participated in the three day event include Alabama, Columbia, Memphis and Tulane.
"It was a great weekend of tennis," said Alabama head coach George Husack. "All the teams battled in some very tough conditions, as Mother Nature was relentless with her heat. Our guys competed well, and this event will no doubt help us for the season ahead. Now it's time to rest for a couple of days then get back to preparing for the next event."
In doubles play, senior Hayes Brewer and freshman Thibault Cancel topped Columbia's William Matheson and Jack Turchetta, 8-3. Sophomore Langford Hills and senior Ritchie Kruunenberg outlasted Adam Ambrozy and Michal Rolski of Columbia in an 8-6 decision. The Tide's final double victory came from junior Matthew Rossouw and freshman Alexey Nesterov as the pair defeated Columbia's Victor Pham and Jackie Tang, 8-6.
Kruunenberg topped Columbia's Tim Wang, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, before Hills registered Alabama's second singles victory in a three set thriller over Ambrozy of Columbia, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.
The overall champion of the Crimson singles flight was a tie between Victor Pham and Alex Keyser, as they both went 3-0 on the weekend. The champion of the White flight was William Matheson (Columbia) posting a 3-0 mark over the weekend as well.
In doubles, there were a multitude of teams tying with changes in pairing and so there was no clear-cut winner in the Crimson or White divisions.
The Tide returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, when it travels to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the ITA All-American Championships.
